The illustrious company of James Dixon and Sons is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year.
British Silverware is proud to have such a world recognised brand in its portfolio and more importantly to still be producing products and silverware in its name, in the city of Sheffield where it all started 200 years ago.
Over its long and distinguished history the company James Dixion and Sons prided itself on the skill and knowledge of its workforce which has always been important in ensuring the products and items produced were of the very highest quality, this is still true in the 21st century.
The size of the company has changed over time but the skill base has remained very high, which is essential in upholding the reputation of the company throughout the world.
The collection of old trade catalogues the company has, show the range of silverware James Dixon and Sons made and their diversity is extraordinary. These products were made in an era when thousands of pieces were produced by hundreds of skilled men and women in their employment.
Today we will still use these old catalogues to show prospective clients what can be produced in silver and to help in designing the bespoke silverware we make to suit their 21st century needs.
We can do this because the workforce we have today can still produce any of the products in the old catalogues as well as making the more regular contemporary items that are called for in the modern world. It is unusual for a company to retain such craftsmen and we are very proud that all our silverware is of equal quality to that made by the forefathers of the company.
I hope the brief history of the company and Dixon family will give some insight into this great company's heritage.
